Blog: Increase American Energy Production, Bring Down Gas Prices

Location: Unknown

This week, the House voted to expand American energy production and create jobs by reopening the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Virginia to oil and natural gas lease sales.

By blocking American energy production in these areas, the Obama Administration is contributing to the rising price at the pump and our dependence on foreign oil. It is hypocritical to think that countries like Saudi Arabia and Libya can produce oil safer and more environmentally-friendly than the United States.

I support an all-of-the-above approach to our energy policy. That starts with producing more American-made energy. We also need to conserve as much energy as possible, and continue developing alternatives that can one day replace traditional energy sources. I have worked closely with the University of Georgia in its efforts to identify and develop new energy sources that do not impact the food supply like algae, complex carbohydrates, and non-edible sweet potatoes.

Next week, the House will consider two more measures to increase offshore oil production by lifting the Obama Administration's de facto drilling moratorium and requiring the Administration to move forward on American energy production in areas containing the most oil and natural gas resources. With the cooperation of the White House and the Democrat-controlled Senate, we can put thousands of Americans back to work while bringing down gas prices.
