Statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) today issued the following statement commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"Today, in commemoration of Holocaust Remembrance Day, I join millions throughout the world in paying tribute to those who perished or lost family members in the Nazi genocide less than 70 years ago.

"With each passing year, the number of survivors and eye witnesses of the Holocaust shrinks. Yet we cannot let the passage of time allow people to forget the atrocities that were committed in a planned, systematic attempt to exterminate an entire group of people from the earth. The cost of letting this pass us by will increase likelihood that a similar horror may happen again.

"The scourge of Holocaust denial and anti-Jewish incitement is currently experiencing a rebirth around the world, with the regime in Iran leading the charge. We must answer these challenges by redoubling our efforts to teach the lessons of the Holocaust to our children, make it clear that we will not stand for intolerance or injustice, and remember what happens when well-intentioned individuals ignore threats and stand idly by in the face of dehumanization and evil."
