Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) released the following statement Monday about the death of September 11th mastermind Osama bin Laden:

"I stand with the thousands of Americans cheering the death of Osama bin Laden. The spontaneous celebrations around the country illustrate what makes this country great. When challenged, we rise to meet it united.

But during this time of joy, we must also stop and reflect. The nation's #1 enemy is now dead. While it brings some sense of closure to a terrible chapter in US history, we can never forget the people that Osama bin Laden murdered. His death will not replace them, but I hope it gives 9/11 families a feeling that justice has finally been served.

I am so proud of the work of our brave fighting men and women - those who carried out this dangerous mission and those who still stand on the front lines on the War on Terror. I also want to congratulate President Obama and his national security team. Years of hard work spanning two Administrations paid off.

This significant victory was a team effort, but we can't let our guard down and I urge everyone to remain vigilant against an ever changing terrorist threat - here at home and abroad."
