MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman Meehan to Hold Hearing on Pakistan

Press Release

Date: May 2, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-07), Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, will hold a hearing on Tuesday, May 3 at 2:00pm about the threat to the United States emanating from Pakistan.

"This previously scheduled hearing is particularly timely given the announcement last evening about the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan," said Congressman Meehan. "Many questions now remain about Pakistan. This hearing will provide Subcommittee Members an opportunity to hear from outside experts on the intent and capability of the various terrorist organizations operating in Pakistan to strike the United States. In recent years, we have seen a number of terrorist plots against the United States planned in Pakistan, including the Times Square attack by Faisal Shahzad and the New York City subway plot by Najibullah Zazi. It is critical for Congress to better understand the myriad of counterterrorism and intelligence issues regarding Pakistan so that we can better secure our homeland."
