Join Thousands of Fellow Louisianians in the Balanced Budget Fight

Statement

Date: May 5, 2011

Dear Friend,

With every minute that ticks by, the national deficit continues rising. In fact, our nation's deficit is increasing by roughly $4 billion a day and our national debt is more than $14 trillion. That's roughly $46,000 for every man, woman and child in America.

Massive spending cuts need to happen today in order to get us back on a sustainable fiscal path. And until we do that, the U.S. Senate shouldn't bring up any other legislation.

I'm proud to be a co-sponsor of a constitutional amendment that would require the federal government to balance its budget each year.

Recently I invited folks to sign up as a Citizen Co-sponsor of our balanced budget amendment to make their voices heard in Washington. We already have more than 7,000 Citizen Co-sponsors!

Please sign up here to be a Citizen Co-sponsor of our balanced budget amendment!

If you have already signed up, you may also recommend to your family and friends to join.

Making tough choices and real cuts today will make a huge difference when we hand our country over to our children and grandchildren. Like Louisiana families who sit around the kitchen table and plan a realistic budget, the federal government needs to start operating within its means. And that means working to balance the budget.

I invite you to join me in sending the message that it's not enough to just talk about spending cuts -- we must take action.

Sincerely,

David Vitter
United States Senator
