Rep. Blake Farenthold Votes to Rein In Federal Spending

Rep. Blake Farenthold (TX 27) voted for H.Con.Res. 34, Establishing the budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2012.

"In these past four months, Washington, DC has shifted from a culture of spending to a culture of cutting. This week, I voted for the largest non-defense spending cut in history, nearly $40 billion, to help begin to create a better environment for small businesses and families," said Farenthold. "This was just the first step in getting our financial house back in order."

"We have to stop spending money we don't have. We are currently borrowing 42 cents on the dollar, much of it from the Chinese, and sending the bill to our children and grandchildren. If families across America have to tighten their belts, Washington should be leading by example."

"House Republicans control one-half of one-third of the government in Washington. The White House and the Democrats in the U.S. Senate have fought our efforts to cut spending every step of the way. We didn't get into this crisis overnight, and we will not get out of it overnight."

"That is why House Republicans will now advance our fight from saving billions of dollars to saving trillions of dollars as we turn our focus to next year's budget. Today the House of Representatives passed a budget for 2012 that includes cutting $4.4 trillion in spending over ten years."

H.Con.Res. 34 passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 235 to 193. It has been sent to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
