Griffin Votes to Repeal $16 Billion Slush Fund in Health Care Law

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) released the following statement after today's vote on H.R. 1217, an Act to repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund:

"This fund is a $16 billion account that the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) can spend on just about anything she likes. Eliminating this fund will save U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars."

H.R. 1217 would repeal section 4002 of the President's 2010 health care law, a provision establishing the Prevention and Public Health Fund. Under this provision, the HHS Secretary is authorized to administer and spend funds without any further Congressional approval.
