Congressman Tom Reed today voted in favor of the Path to Prosperity Republican 2012 budget plan, calling it the best plan to control the national debt while at the same time setting the table for job creation.

"We are borrowing $58,000 per second on the backs of our children and grandchildren," Reed said. "That is unsustainable and we must address it by reducing spending. The Path to Prosperity budget plan will reduce government spending by $6.2 trillion over the next decade. Reducing spending and getting our national debt under control is the single most important issue I was elected to address."

"This budget also brings some certainty to our plan to get our national finances in order. I cannot understate the importance that financial certainty has to job creation," Reed continued. "Trillions of private dollars sit on the sidelines waiting to see if we are serious about reducing the deficit and paying down our debt. This plan begins to do that. It will show the market that we are indeed getting our finances in order, freeing those trillions to be put into the U.S. economy instead of elsewhere. That means a stronger recovery and job creation. Certainty will unleash the private markets, innovators, and entrepreneurs."

Reed concluded by adding that the solvency of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid must be addressed. "This is not easy," Reed commented. "However, it is a conversation we need to have. We must reform entitlements now to save these programs for current and future generations without making changes for those age 55 and older. The Path to Prosperity gives us a plan to do just that."

The Path to Prosperity budget plan passed the House and now moves on to the Senate.
