Rep. Scott Tipton's Statement on Looming Government Shutdown

Statement

Date: April 8, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

With the C.R. set to expire at midnight, Congressman Scott Tipton (CO-03) released the following statement on a potential government shutdown:

"We have put forward solutions in the House to cut spending and keep government operating. The House passed an extension yesterday to ensure that funding for our troops would remain uninterrupted for the rest of 2011, and would keep government open for another week while budget talks continue. Still Senate Democrats refuse to act, are not offering any solutions, and are forcing a shutdown.

"In the event of a government shutdown I will decline my paycheck. As long as our men and women in uniform aren't being paid or other federal employees, I will not take a check.

"I want to assure the citizens in my district that social security benefits and other vital programs will not be interrupted during this shutdown. My offices will remain open and fully staffed to ensure that lines of communication with the citizens of the third district remain open during this important time."
