Portman: Ohio's Unemployment is Dropping; Jobs are Being Created

Washington, Apr 27 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Rob Portman (R-Ohio) today hailed Ohio's new job numbers and dropping unemployment rate. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently announced that Ohio's unemployment rate dropped to 5.7%, the same as the national rate, and that 7,900 payroll jobs were created in Ohio in March.

"The Bush economic plan is working for Ohio," Portman said. "Jobs are being created in Ohio this year. Unemployment went from 6.2% in January, to 5.9% in February, to 5.7% in March. More than 30,000 jobs have been created in Ohio this year. These new jobs show that lowering taxes on families and small businesses helps create jobs, spur investment, and grow the economy. Now we need to prevent the job-killing snapback tax increases and redouble our efforts to create a pro-growth and pro-jobs environment."
