Continuing Drumbeat Against Unconstitutional Obamacare, Congressman Landry Signs Amicus Brief

Press Release

Date: March 28, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Fighting to declare the President's health care law unconstitutional, Congressman Jeff Landry (Republican, New Iberia) joined 48 fellow Congressmen -- including Speaker John Boehner and Leader Eric Cantor -- and the American Center for Law and Justice in filing an amicus brief in support of Virginia's lawsuit challenging Obamacare.

"President Obama and the liberal Congress violated the Constitution last year when they forced individuals to purchase health insurance," said Landry. "Today, we're asking the Appeals Court to uphold Judge Hudson's ruling and declare the entire law -- not just the individual mandate -- unconstitutional. Our filing is an important step in reforming our health care system properly and preserving our personal liberties."

In December -- Federal Court Judge Henry Hudson in Richmond ruled in favor of the State of Virginia, concluding the individual mandate provision in President Obama's healthcare takeover bill "exceeds the constitutional boundaries of congressional power."

"I will continue to monitor the progress of each court challenge to Obamacare and hope the judges will continue to make the right decisions," Landry optimistically concluded. "Hopefully, a repeal bill will pass through both houses of Congress soon and the President will come to his senses to realize the American people do not want the government getting between them and their doctors."
