Sen. Carper Statement on the March Jobs Report

Statement

Date: April 1, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) released the following statement regarding March employment figures released today:

"There is much good news to be found in today's March jobs report. Unemployment dropped to 8.8 percent, its lowest level in two years. The economy also added 230,000 private sector jobs in March, marking 13 consecutive months of private sector job growth. Labor markets have steadied, and the economy is slowly but surely picking up steam.

"But there is still more to do to help the economic recovery. Congress and the Obama Administration must continue to provide a nurturing environment for job creation, giving businesses the certainty and predictability they need to expand and invest in American jobs. We want the private sector to continue leading the way, and consumer and business confidence is essential for economic growth at a more robust pace.

"Improvements in the economy also mean improvements in consumer and business confidence, so we are moving in the right direction. With the proper investments and support from the public sector, our businesses will once again be able to out-compete in the global marketplace and our nation will continue to prosper."
