Government works best when it is conducted out in the open rather than behind closed doors in smoke-filled rooms. As Governor, I will push for more transparency in government. I have a record of supporting open government. In the 2011 session, under my leadership the Senate passed long needed ethics reform that requires disclosure by paid public officials and prohibits working as lobbyists for one year after leaving a public office. I also previously sponsored and helped pass legislation that made West Virginia the first state in the nation to regulate 527 political groups requiring the disclose sources of political funding.
