Congressman Peter Roskam (R-IL), Chief Deputy Whip, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a short-term Continuing Resolution that cuts another $6 billion while funding the government through April 8th:
"House Republicans have now acted three times in four weeks to keep the government operating while also cutting $10 billion in spending -- cuts that will begin to remove barriers to job creation. However, this is only the beginning. It's time for government to start living within its means just like families do every month -- not continue to spend money it doesn't have. It's long past time for Washington Democrats and President Obama to step up to the plate on a long-term CR that meaningfully cuts spending -- since, regrettably, they're still in search of a coherent position.
"House Republicans have changed the conversation almost overnight in Washington -- from spending and borrowing to saving and creating jobs. In that light, a study released today by the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) Republicans demonstrates that, across the globe, significantly cutting government spending encourages private-sector job creation and returns certainty to the economy. It's time for long-term cuts to be enacted -- our economy needs it and future generations deserve it."
