USAID Administrator meets with Congressman Rothman in Washington, DC

Location: Washington, DC

On February 17, 2011, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense; and State and Foreign Operations, met with Dr. Rajiv Shah, Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the Congressman's Washington, DC office. They discussed the vital work of USAID and the importance of the agency's funding as Congress appropriates its budget for the coming year.

"While Congress needs to cut spending, while we need to get rid of waste, while we need to find additional sources of revenue, a dramatic reduction in the one percent of the U.S. budget devoted to foreign aid and diplomacy -- and USAID specifically -- is not wise," said Congressman Rothman. "Cutting USAID will not right our struggling economy, but will ultimately cost us more in securing our national interests."
