- Corker Cosponsors Bill Protecting Consumers and Businesses from Costly New Carbon Regulations

U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has cosponsored legislation preventing the Environmental Protection Agency's implementation of sweeping new rules regulating carbon emissions for the first time. The Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011, introduced yesterday by Senator Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., and others, protects households and businesses from paying the increased costs passed down to them by those forced to comply with the new regulations. A companion version of the bill was also introduced in the House of Representatives.

"American families and businesses can't afford the new energy tax that EPA's planned regulation of carbon emissions would create," Corker said. "It is inappropriate for the EPA to mandate large-scale carbon emissions reductions through administrative regulations, and instead, it is my hope that in Congress we will determine a rational energy policy for the country, broadly advancing our energy security and maintaining existing policies to ensure clean air and water."

Last June, Corker was a cosponsor of a joint resolution to reverse the EPA's endangerment finding that formed the legal rational for the new carbon regulations. The resolution failed to pass the Senate.
