Protecting Small Businesses and Job Creation -- Congressman Landry Votes to Repeal Obamacare's 1099 Provisions

Press Release

Date: March 3, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jeff Landry (Republican, New Iberia) voted today for H.R. 4 -- "the comprehensive repeal of the Democrats' job-killing 1099 provisions and reduction of waste, fraud, and abuse in Obamacare."

"H.R. 4 once again signals the end of the Democrats' two-year assault on small businesses. Last year, Democrats twice passed legislation requiring small businesses to spend more time and resources filling out tax forms than trying to expand their businesses and create new jobs," said Landry. "I'm proud to support the repeal of these provisions."

"Since being elected, I have talked to hundreds of small business owners and they all say the same thing: they'd love to hire more workers, but they can't because government regulations are taking a bigger and bigger bite out of their bottom line," Landry continued. "If we ever want to reduce unemployment, we have to reduce the government penalties on small businesses -- which is exactly what H.R. 4 does."

"My vote today answers the American people's call for less spending, more jobs, and a smaller government. It protects taxpayers by reducing the deficit by $166 million, federal spending by $20 billion, and taxes by $19.7 billion," concluded Landry.

Last year, the Democrat-led Congress passed H.R. 3590 (Obamacare) and H.R. 5297 (TARP III) -- bills containing provisions that greatly expanded tax reporting requirements on small businesses in order to pay for new entitlement programs created by Democrats. Obamacare required small business owners to fill out a 1099 tax form for every entity they do $600 worth of business within a given year. TARP III further expanded this 1099 requirement to all recipients of rental income.
