Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has followed through on her pledge to deal with the nation's fiscal crisis by voting "yes' on legislation to fund the government for the rest of the year and to begin ending the job-destroying spending spree that has put this country more than $14 trillion in debt.

"The destructive liberal spending path we are on is the path to financial disaster," Hartzler said. "By voting to end the runaway spending that has choked economic recovery, stagnated the job market, and put the United States into unfathomable debt we are listening to the people who have told us it is time to end the madness. The good citizens of the 4thDistrict have told me they don't want a future with fewer jobs, less prosperity, and a lower standard of living. And they certainly don't want to see their children and grandchildren saddled with levels of debt that cannot ever be paid off. Job-seekers in Sedalia, Lebanon, and Jefferson City are demanding we act now to create jobs and to restore fiscal responsibility."

"While going deeper and deeper into debt destroys both the economy and the job market it also threatens America's ability to protect itself," added Hartzler. "That's not political rhetoric. It came directly from Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who said, "I think the biggest threat we have to our national security is our debt.'"

"Each day the taxpayers of this country pay more than $1.2 billion on our interest payments alone," concluded Hartzler. "The share of debt owed by each child born in this country today is more than $45,000. We owe our young people a much better future."
