Ensign: Obama Budget Continues to Spend too much

Senator John Ensign, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, today addressed the $8.7 trillion in new spending under President Obama's budget proposal and the new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) that highlights billions of dollars in duplicative federal spending.

"The United States is heading toward an economic catastrophe, and President Obama's budget is ushering us even closer to the edge," said Ensign. "The current $1.65 trillion deficit and the fact that we are borrowing 42 cents out of every dollar that we spend mean that this will be the first generation of Americans who will not enjoy the promise of the American dream as those of the past. Instead of showing leadership on the issue of important spending cuts across the board, President Obama has proposed another $8.7 trillion in new spending. This number is not only unsustainable, it's irresponsible.

"These gross duplications in federal programs and agencies, along with billions of dollars in binge spending increases, are crippling the present and future of the United States. The GAO report underscores the great negligence of the federal government when it comes to managing hard-earned taxpayer dollars and further highlights the need for Congress to get our fiscal house in order."
