House Passes 1099 Repeal With Overwhelming Support

On Thursday, March 3, 2011, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4, a bill that would repeal the infamous 1099 IRS reporting provision enacted by ObamaCare. H.R. 4 passed by a vote of 314-112. Congressman Woodall voted in favor of the bill.

"More than seventy percent of the House supported H.R. 4--with seventy-six Democrats on board with repealing the 1099 provisions. Last year, Democrats passed ObamaCare in the dark of night without letting anyone read the bill. In fact, it was former Speaker Pelosi last year during the ObamaCare debates who said, "[W]e have to pass the [health care] bill so you can find out what's in it.' This is no way to legislate. Now, as we peel back the layers of this job-destroying bill, we can see that there are onerous portions, like the 1099 provision, that even people who voted in favor of the bill last Congress cannot get behind," Woodall said.

The 1099 requirement imposes additional tax reporting requirements to the IRS for business transactions over $600 in goods or services.

"ObamaCare's 1099 provision places an undue tax burden on American businesses and families," he continued. "I was proud to vote in favor of repealing the 1099 provision just as I was proud to vote for the entire repeal of ObamaCare back in January. I hope the Senate moves quickly to send the bill to the President's desk for signing."
