Administration's Plan to Expand Wireless Broadband Access

Location: Washington, DC

Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Commerce Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet, today applauded President Obama's plan to deliver the next generation of high-speed wireless coverage to 98 percent of Americans.

"President Obama knows the future of telecommunications is now and we have to win it," Sen. Kerry said. "Senator Snowe and I introduced auction legislation last year to seize this moment and release more of our airwaves for wireless broadband, and Chairman Rockefeller is leading the fight to equip our public safety officials with modern communications tools. We will be holding hearings on wireless broadband policy over the next two months and aim to send legislation to the President for his signature that will simultaneously make us safer and leverage the power of our airwaves for innovation and job creation nationwide."
