Tonight, under an open rule presented by House Republican Leadership, Congressman Mike Pompeo introduced an amendment to the Continuing Resolution. Pompeo's amendment passed on a vote of 239-185, rolling back funding for the Greenhouse Gases Registry to 2008 levels, saving taxpayers over $8.4 Million. Pompeo released the following statement post-vote:

"The vision of the CR is to roll-back non-security discretionary funding to Fiscal Year 2008 levels. This is essential to get our fiscal house in order and start to grow the economy. My amendment is supported by Citizens Against Government Waste.

"Surprisingly, though, the Committee forgot to roll-back the Greenhouse Gases Reporting Registry. Funding for this registry has ballooned in recent years from $3.2 million in FY 2008 to $16 million last year. The FY2012 Budget Request proposes to bring this registry to $20 million.

"In addition to out-of-control growth, this registry is part of the onerous rules that force businesses to provide the EPA with data on greenhouse gases. This mandate is just another unnecessary regulatory hoop for businesses, which divert resources needed for investment and job creation.

"More concerning, this registry is then being used by the EPA to advocate for a Cap-and-Tax scheme in the regulatory process and in the public square. Allowing the EPA to move forward on this regulatory scheme would have cost jobs and continued to devastate our economy.

"The passage of my amendment tonight signals a victory, both for open and transparent process in a new Republican Majority and for American taxpayers," stated Pompeo.
