Record Unemployment and Job Loss Marks Two Year Anniversary of Failed Stimulus

Press Release

Today marks the two year anniversary of the enactment of the spending monstrosity known as the "Stimulus." The Stimulus was passed on President Obama's promises that the $1 trillion worth of government spending would ensure our nation's unemployment rate would not exceed 8 percent and that we would save and/or create 3.5 million jobs. Two years later we have entered our 21st straight month of unemployment over 9 percent and 2.5 million jobs have been lost.

"With a record $14 trillion worth of unsustainable debt, our nation is in a spending-driven debt crisis," said Congressman Kevin Yoder. "While we can't dig ourselves out of this hole overnight, House Republicans have made significant strides in righting our nation's fiscal ship. This week, we proposed $100 billion worth of spending cuts to the President's FY2011 funding requests. This is a positive step toward getting our economy back on track, opening the door for job creation and economic growth."
