Congressman John Lewis On the Death of President Ronald Reagan

June 7, 2004 - "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of President Ronald Reagan. During my first term in the Congress I had an opportunity to meet with him. I found him to be a very charming and warm human being. He had the ability and the capacity to touch the American people, and whether you agreed with him or not, he made it clear where he stood."

"He brought to the presidency and to American politics a different style. He never talked down to the American people. He was always reaching out, trying to include people of different political persuasions. President Reagan was a rare politician. He was one of a kind. As a nation and as a people, we will not be so blessed to see his likeness again."
