Our current immigration system is broken and we must fix it.I support comprehensive immigration reform that will secure our borders, protect our local businesses, and fix our broken citizenship process.I also believe this reform effort must provide a path to citizenship for those who have worked hard, played by the rules and contributed to their communities.

Comprehensive reform will acknowledge our rich heritage as a country of immigrants and celebrate the invaluable contributions immigrant communities make to our society.

I am a proud supporter of the American Dream Act (H.R. 1751), which provides access to education benefits and a path to citizenship for dedicated young people who came to the United States as children, contributed to our communities and are either attending university or serving in our nation's Armed Forces.

I am also a proud co-sponsor of the Reuniting American Families Act , which ensures that visas are allocated efficiently, alleviates lengthy wait times that keep legal immigrants and their overseas loved ones separated for years, and decreases measures that prevent family members from obtaining visas.

Further, I am a strong supporter of the Uniting American Families Act (H.R. 1024), which eliminates discrimination in immigration laws against same-sex, permanent partners and their families who are seeking to reunite.

As we work on this complex issue in the 111th Congress, I look forward to working with the Obama Administration to enact humane, comprehensive and long-lasting immigration reform.
