House Passage to Repeal Health Care Law

Location: Unknown

Congressman Tim Scott released the following statement on yesterday's passage by the House of Representatives of H.R. 2: Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act, which he cosponsored:

"Yesterday's vote was a victory for our democracy. On November 2, voters came to the polls to overwhelmingly reject the government takeover of health care. In the first major act of the 112th Congress, we responded to the concerns of our constituents.

Congress had an opportunity last year to reform what ails our health care system. Instead, the federal government took it over. What we did yesterday is take the first step to implement the very things that should have been done last year… allowing citizens to purchase insurance across state lines, which increases competition and lowers costs, expand HSA's, enact medical tort reform that will end junk law suits and decrease "defensive medicine" that costs us billions, ensure access for those with preexisting conditions and protect the sacred patient / doctor relationship. These are market-based and patient-centered improvements that are vastly better than what was done last year.

I look forward to having a discussion with the constituents of the 1stDistrict as to the changes they would like to see, and to working with my colleagues in Congress to pass meaningful, fiscally responsible health care reform."
