Alexander Applauds Efforts to Cut Uncle Sam's Credit Cards

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, issued the following remarks in response to House Republicans keeping their pledge to America by cutting spending:

"Still in the early stages of the new Congress, House Republicans have already taken significant strides to kick the federal government's nasty spending habit.

"We immediately reduced Congress' own budget by five percent, saving $35 million this year alone, and cut millions of dollars in wasteful and needless spending at the Government Printing Office. Last week, the House took the first step to save American taxpayers an estimated $2.6 trillion when legislation was passed to repeal the health care overhaul law. And today, House Republicans continued in their efforts to cut careless spending by supporting a resolution to reduce non-security spending to the 2008 levels -- returning Washington's budget back to the days of pre-bailout, pre-stimulus.

"I applaud these efforts to cut Uncle Sam's credit cards, create jobs and grow the economy. Washington should downsize its budget, not ask American families and small business to downsize theirs."
