As a child psychologist Congressman Murphy has worked with children all of his life, from the most fragile premature babies in hospital newborn intensive care units to teenagers adjusting to high school life. There is nothing he values more than the sanctity of human life and defending young children.

This is evident by his perfect record on pro-life issues in Congress. Congressman Murphy has voted to ban partial-birth abortions, promote alternatives to abortion like adoption-friendly laws, and supported legislation that prohibits transporting minors across state lines to receive abortions to circumvent their state's laws.

Congressman Murphy believes life begins at conception. He supports the use of federal tax dollars to fund promising stem cell research, so long as it does not destroy human embryos. There are several types of stems cells include adult, amniotic, and embryonic. Scientific treatment has so far yielded 72 treatments published in scientific journals involving adult stem cells. Recent studies show great potential for amniotic stem cells. However, after 20 years of research into embryonic stem cells, which requires the destruction of human embryos, no cures have yet been developed. Unfortunately, there are not unlimited funds for medical research. Therefore, it is important out tax dollars go to areas where there are positive scientific results without questions raised by embryo destruction.
