Congressman Chris Lee Comments on President Obama's State of the Union Address

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Chris Lee (NY-26) today issued the following statement in response to this evening's State of the Union address by President Obama:

"I appreciate President Obama coming to the Capitol this evening to address Congress and the American People on the many issues facing our nation. With unemployment remaining near double digits and our national debt topping $14 trillion, job creation and fiscal responsibility must be our number one issues. We need to closely examine our spending and I am hopeful that President Obama will work with Congress to tighten Washington's belt.

"I commend the President's renewed commitment to workforce training and strengthening American competitiveness. American workers can compete with anyone in the world, but they need a level playing field with foreign economies. I look forward to working with the President and my colleagues to strengthen American manufacturing, create jobs and make America more competitive in the world. If the President is willing to work with us to grow Western New York and our private sector while shrinking Washington, he will have a willing partner in me. But the fact of the matter is we were sent to Congress to get the job done, shrink Washington and create jobs, and we have no time to waste."

Lee planned to sit with several of his New York State counterparts from both sides of the aisle.
