Today, Congressman John Sullivan, the Vice Chairman of the House Energy and Power Subcommittee, strongly rebuked the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) decision to approve a 50 percent increase in the amount of ethanol allowed in gasoline used by cars and light trucks manufactured in the 2001-2006 model years. Sullivan offered the following statement:
"This is a prime example of why we need more rigorous Congressional oversight of the EPA. The EPA has gone rogue -- they are completely ignoring calls from lawmakers, industry and consumer groups to address important safety issues raised by the 50% increase in the ethanol mandate announced this morning. The EPA's decision could adversely impact up to 60% of cars on the road today --leading to consumer confusion at the pump and possible engine failure in the cars they drive. As the Vice Chairman of the House Energy and Power Subcommittee, I look forward to taking the EPA to task on this decision."
