Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA) today issued the below statement following the announcement that he was named to serve as the Vice Chairman for the Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing, and Community Opportunity. "Working to grow our economy and create jobs for the people of the 5th District continues to be a top priority for me in Congress. I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as a Vice Chairman for the Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing, and Community Opportunity, and as a member of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises.

"With the critical work ahead that will directly affect Central and Southside Virginians, I look forward to supporting policies that will protect taxpayers by reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, ensure that the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Bill will not hinder Main Street Banks, keep credit markets open to help small businesses expand and hire, and restore stability to the housing market.

"There is a lot of work to be done to turn our economy around, and the Financial Services Committee and Subcommittees will play an important role in working towards a true and sustainable recovery."
