Robert Hurt Statement On Voting In Favor Of The Resolution To Cut The House's Operational Budget

Press Release

Date: Jan. 6, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA) released the following statement after the House adopted the resolution to cut House office budgets by 5 percent. The 5 percent budget cut will apply to all leadership offices, committees, and Members' personal allowances. These cuts will save taxpayers at least $35 million in 2011 alone.

"I was proud to vote in favor of today's resolution to cut House office budgets by 5 percent.

"The people of the 5thDistrict made it clear that they want to see an end to the reckless government spending that fails to create jobs, adds to our trillion dollar deficits and nearly 14 trillion in debt, and threatens the economic future of our country.

"Today's vote was a good first step in showing our commitment to cutting unnecessary government spending, working to save taxpayer dollars, and turning the tide to put our country on a path of fiscal responsibility."
