Statement

Date: Jan. 7, 2011
Issues: Education

"Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that a son of a mine worker
can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become
the president..."
- Nelson Mandela

Dear Education Leader:

After a mandated "black-out period" during the last few months*, this January education e-newsletter is aimed at providing you with an overview of some of the education-related work of the 111th Congress. From historic investments in education and job training, to the expansion of affordable health care for countless families and children, I am proud to of the progress that has been made in support of our schools and students.

As 2010 comes to a close and we begin 2011, I am thankful for the great dedication of El Paso teachers, counselors, administration, and staff who work tirelessly on behalf of our children. I look forward to working even harder this year to ensure that students in El Paso have the support and resources they need to obtain a world-class education.

As always, please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance. Also, please visit my website, http://reyes.house.gov to sign up for my e-mail newsletter, learn about my recent activities, and obtain information on federal programs.

Sincerely,

Silvestre Reyes
Member of Congress
