Representative Waxman believes that strong action must be taken to further secure our nation's borders to curb unlawful entry into the U.S. and protect our national security. He has been a consistent advocate of increases in funding for border patrol and enforcement, investments in technology to counter immigration fraud and counterfeit documents, and enforcement of sanctions on employers who knowingly recruit and hire illegal immigrants.

Representative Waxman is a cosponsor of H.R. 4321, The Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act. This legislation would maximize border security by increasing border agents, enhancing their training, and providing them with the most advanced equipment and technology; improve the exchange of information among federal agencies and expand resources to pursue traffickers and smugglers; establish an employment verification system with significant penalties for employers who knowingly hire undocumented immigrants; and establish a path to lawful residence for those undocumented immigrants who demonstrate that they've made contributions to the U.S., undergo background checks, pay fines, meet English and civics requirements, and pay all taxes.
