Rep. Jackson: DOC Fix Fits the Bill

Statement

Today, Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. made the following statement after passage of Senate Amendments to H.R. 4994, the Medicare and Medicaid Extenders Act. Passage of the bill sends it to President Obama, who is expected to sign it into law.

Congressman Jackson said:

"Today, we continued the good work that the Democratic Congress has done to ensure that our citizens have access to the best possible health care. From passing health reform, to securing money for Medicaid programs, to reauthorizing the State Children's Health Insurance Program and extending it to 4 million additional kids, this Congress has stepped up to the plate when it comes to health care.

"Today's bill is about peace of mind for seniors and veterans who can now rest assured that they will continue to receive top-quality care from the doctors they trust. No family should be anxious about the care their loved ones will receive, especially at the holiday season. This bill will take one worry off the table for millions of families. That is the kind of good public policy that both Democrats and Republicans can get behind.

"On top of that, this bill is fully paid for. As families across the country end another year under the cloud of economic uncertainty - wondering how they'll put food on the table, clothes on their kids' backs, and presents under the tree - Congress must act in an economically responsible way. This bill fits the bill for America's seniors and veterans."
