Price Statement on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Repeal

Congressman Tom Price (R-GA) issued the following statement after the House passed a bill to end the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

"According to the Pentagon's own data, the soldiers and Marines in combat today believe repealing this policy now would hurt their unit's effectiveness," said Congressman Price. "Pushing repeal through in this manner ignores the life and death issues faced daily by our brave men and women on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the concerns of three of our nation's four military chiefs.

"The consequences of repeal also extend to questions about family benefits, family support programs, religious views, and rights of conscience. Failure to adequately address these issues could cause major disruptions in the military, yet House Democrats have failed to hold committee hearings on the Pentagon's latest report on this policy. The elected representatives of the American people should practice an appropriate level of oversight rather than have this vote pushed through in an unaccountable lame duck session run by folks who refuse to listen to those most affected by their actions."
