Polis Statement on Extension of Tax Cuts

Statement

Date: Dec. 17, 2010

Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO) issued the following statement today in response to the passage of H.R. 4853 -- the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010.

Today's vote was a victory for President Obama and America's middle class. President Obama showed leadership in crafting a package that is the only way to ensure that taxes on working families don't increase and that unemployment insurance doesn't run out for those in search of work. In addition to protecting tax cuts for working families, the revised package contains critical extensions of unemployment benefits, a payroll tax holiday, and Recovery Act initiatives that are already making a difference. For Colorado especially, the extension of renewable energy tax credits in the 1603 Treasury Grant Program will mean the difference between night and day for our growing green energy economy and create thousands of jobs. This bill is the best thing we can do right here, right now to help working families. That's why I voted yes today and why I will continue my fight for innovative policies to create jobs and encourage solid growth in our economy.
