Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona's Sixth District, along with 67 other Republicans including Speaker-designate John Boehner and Majority Leader-elect Eric Cantor, today urged President Obama to veto any end-of-year spending bill which contain earmarks.
In a letter to President Obama, the House Republicans explain that signing an end-of-year spending bill laden with earmarks will only worsen taxpayers' distrust in the federal government.
"The voters sent us a very clear message this year: restore fiscal discipline," said Flake. "If President Obama were to sign a bill full of earmarks, we'd be sending a message back that we not only didn't listen, but chose to disregard their wishes completely."
