Costello Announces USDA Grant for Digital Transition of WSIU

Statement

Date: Dec. 3, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL), Chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee, today issued the following statement regarding the Department of Transportation Inspector General's (DOT IG's) report, Improper Payments Identified in FAA's Airport Improvement Program:

"The occurrence of improper payments documented in the DOT IG's report is unacceptable and the FAA must take immediate, strong steps to ensure they do not occur in the future," said Costello. "The Airport Improvement Program is very important, ensuring air access to all areas of the country, and the funding intended to improve operations at these facilities must not be wasted due to the lack of, or inability to implement, proper controls. This is particularly critical given the budget constraints our country faces. I commend the IG for this report and will work with my colleagues to ensure that the FAA follows through on these recommendations."
