Issue Position: Economy and Federal Spending

Issue Position

The American economy, and the global economy, continues to struggle for various reasons including the tightening of both commercial and consumer credit, and an increasing budget deficit. More government spending is not the answer. Tax cuts that stimulate small businesses and help families with rising costs are policies that I support during difficult economic times.

Trade is a critical part to southern California's economy and growth moving forward. Mexico and Canada are California's largest trading partner and the North American Free Trade agreement has ensured we have access to a wide range of goods and services as well as have a market for our goods and services to be exported. One in seven jobs in California is related to trade and the state leads the nation in export-related jobs. I have worked hard to expand free trade agreements during my time in Congress and look forward to continuing working for free and fair negotiations with other nations around the world.
