U.S. Representative Edolphus "Ed" Towns (NY-10) released the following statement in honor of Veterans Day 2010:

"Veterans Day is dedicated to paying our deepest respects to America's servicemembers and to recognizing the unparalleled sacrifices they have made for our country. Today, we honor our nation's 24 million veterans and three million troops and reservists. We also pledge to fulfill our duty to provide earned benefits to these brave men and women.

"During a congressional delegation trip I led this year to Afghanistan and Germany, I had the honor of visiting American troops in the region -- a truly humbling experience and an honor to spend time with our courageous men and women in uniform.

"I proudly joined my colleagues in Congress to pass legislation that ensures our veterans have access to quality health care, education and career opportunities. The Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010, which I supported, strengthens VA health care options for our veterans and improves health services for women veterans and their families. I also proudly supported the Helping Heroes Keep Their Homes Act of 2010 that gives more time for our troops returning home to help them avoid foreclosure.

"I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that no veteran is left behind. We are committed to delivering to these brave Americans and their families the benefits and services they deserve."
