Responsible spending requires a concerted effort to put every decision within the context of what is best for the state's long-term success. It requires more than mere good intentions - we need to be willing to make the tough choices. We need to ask ourselves what is best for our state and we need to hold our state agencies accountable for their spending practices. In this way, we will better be able to focus our resources on the highest priority items.
Our responsibility is not exclusively a fiscal issue however. We have a moral responsibility to do our best to maintain and preserve our natural resources for the generations to come. We have to strive to create a climate where businesses can thrive without us losing our fantastic array of unspoiled landscapes, beaches and wildlife.
