The rising property tax burden is one of the most pressing issues facing the hard working people of South Carolina who have realized the dream of home ownership. In 2006, the S.C. General Assembly approved a three-part property tax reform package that slows how fast a home's assessed value can grow, pays a portion of property taxes, and includes a tax cut on groceries while raising the overall sales tax by 1%.
