Today, Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. issued the following statement on the October 2010 jobs report from the Department of Labor that indicated the economy added 151,000 jobs during the month:
"Today's jobs report is another encouraging sign that the economy is starting to turn around. That's good news for every American family. It's also a warning to the new Republican House majority. We cannot go back to the Republican economic policies that got us into this mess in the first place. Cutting taxes for the rich and for large corporations, reducing regulations on big business and privatizing Social Security will only slow the progress we're making. That's a recipe for another disaster.
"My district had unacceptably high unemployment long before the recession started, and we've lagged behind the rest of the country as the economy has begun its turnaround. Nobody is more acutely aware of the need to create jobs than I am. I challenge my Republican colleagues to support economic policies that benefit all Americans, not just the privileged few. Democrats in Illinois must also support building the Abraham Lincoln National Airport and redeveloping Chicago's vacant U.S. Steel site so that we can bring tens of thousands of jobs to our region."
