Rep. Garrett Addresses American Armenians at Mobile Constituent Service Event
Highlights Progress Made By Armenia in Development Initiatives

July 12, 2004, Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05) held a mobile constituent service event at the Home for the Armenian Aged in Emerson, New Jersey, to address the concerns of his Armenian American constituents and to highlight his work in Congress with the Armenian caucus.

"As a member of the Armenian Caucus, I have worked to support initiatives set forth by the Armenian-American community," said Garrett. "I will continue to work in Congress to further address the issues and concerns facing this community and to strengthen the U.S.-Armenia relationship."

Garrett added, "Armenia is a developing country that is working to open markets, remove barriers to entrepreneurship, and reduce excessive bureaucracy and regulation. The strong democratic and economic reforms that have been taking place throughout the country indicate the progress that Armenia is making in the world today."

Garrett is a current member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, an informal bipartisan group of legislators dedicated to maintaining and strengthening the U.S.-Armenia relationship. The coordinated efforts of this diverse, bipartisan coalition of Congressional friends of Armenia help to elevate Armenian-American issues to a much higher profile on Capitol Hill, in the Administration and outside the U.S. Government.

Garrett concluded, "Armenia and the United States will stand together, determined to create a future of peace, prosperity, and freedom for the citizens of both countries, regions, and the world."
