Press Release

Location: Garden City, New York

Today Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (NY-04) announced that the Metro Transit Authority (MTA) in Nassau County is being awarded $5.8 million in funding from the Clean Fuel Air Program for the replacement and upgrade of the Norman Levy Facility, a compressed natural gas station in Garden City.

This grant is awarded by the Department of Transportation, and is part of an ongoing program that assists Clean Air Act nonattainment and maintenance areas in achieving or maintaining the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for ozone and carbon monoxide, and supports emerging clean fuel and advanced propulsion technologies for transit buses and markets for those technologies.

"I am pleased that we have more fedral dollars coming home to the District and that this money will go to Nassau County to improve service for our busses, as well as make our transit system safer for the environment," said Congresswoman McCarthy. "The environment is one of our greatest treasures and we have a responsibility to protect it for our children and future generations to come."
