Potosnak Speaks Longer About Jobs Than Lance Did on the House Floor

Press Release

During Monday's first debate between the two candidates, Ed Potosnak, Democratic candidate for New Jersey's 7th Congressional District, criticized his opponent, Congressman Lance, for speaking a mere 59 seconds about jobs on the floor of the House during his two years in Congress. Today, Potosnak held a press conference in Woodbridge to highlight his own plan to get people back to work, while decrying the Congressman's lack of focus on job creation.

"I am dismayed that my opponent, Congressman Lance has spoken on jobs for 59 seconds on the floor of the House in the last two years in Congress," said Potosnak. "The House floor is where Members of Congress go to speak about what matters most to them. The Congressman spoke more about dogs than he did about jobs in the last two years."

Potosnak highlighted six areas where he would fight to spur job creation. "We need to improve access to small business loans." He promised to fight for accelerated tax relief for business improvements, vowing to "work to make the tax deduction available immediately so that businesses can make purchases that stimulate the economy and put people back to work manufacturing and installing those capital improvements."

He advocated the promotion of research and development through permanent R&D tax credits and promised to extend tax cuts for the middle class. Regarding tax breaks, he would eliminate those going to companies that move American jobs to other countries, while rewarding companies with tax incentives for keeping jobs in the U.S.

"There is a clear difference here between Congressman Lance: a career politician concerned with his own job and me: a teacher and small business owner who will fight for jobs in the 7th district. 59 seconds in two years is a slap in the face to the men and women out of work here in our communities."
