Paulsen Launches Attack Ad Against Meffert

Press Release

Date: Sept. 24, 2010
Location: Edina, MN

Third District U.S. House candidate Jim Meffert released the following statement this morning after Congressman Erik Paulsen began airing an ad attacking Meffert on network television. In the ad, Paulsen attacks Meffert for supporting health care reform and claims Meffert will cut Medicaid and raise taxes.

Meffert said, "It's time to throw out everything you think you know about the race in the Third District. Erik Paulsen is terrified of losing, he is seeing the same numbers we are, and he knows this race is ours to win.

"That is why this morning he launched the first of what will be many distorted and dishonest attack ads against me on network television. Make no mistake, the air war against our campaign has begun and Paulsen is willing to spend every last dollar he has to try to destroy our campaign.

"Why would Paulsen spend nearly his entire campaign war chest to attack me on television unless he is afraid he's on a path to lose? But that is exactly what he is doing. And he will use every generic attack, half-truth and distortion possible to try to take us down over the next 39 days.

"Like the career politician he is, Paulsen has shown time and again that he will do anything to win, even if it means lying, fear-mongering, and misleading the families of our district with slanted information.

"In fact, it seems the only thing Paulsen won't do to win is debate me on the issues in front of the voters! Paulsen should be ashamed of the cynical and vile campaign he is running. But the sad truth is that he's not. We deserve so much more from our elected representative, and that is exactly why I got in this race in the first place."
