Restoration of Medicaid Cuts
Once again, the Governor wanted to slash medical care to our friends and neighbors who need it most. Spending does need to be drastically reduced, but it cannot be done at the cost of our state's most needy residents. Children, pregnant women, and the elderly cannot be forgotten during these difficult economic times. I am proud to report that the General Assembly once again fought hard to reinstate the funding to keep our less fortunate neighbors healthy. Funding was restored to pharmaceutical and support services to the elderly and the mentally ill, as well as to the state's four community hospitals. Our state's spending must be tightened, but we cannot take away from the safety net that so many of our friends and neighbors depend on. I am pleased to report, with this FY 2011 budget, the safety net is intact and state spending has been reduced once more.
