Southerland Denounces Boyd's Hypocrisy in Sending U.S. Jobs Overseas

Second Congressional District candidate Steve Southerland today denounced Rep. Allen Boyd's latest round of desperate political lies, while highlighting Boyd's votes for billions of dollars in tax credits for foreign firms employing overseas workers.

In an attack ad unleashed this week, Boyd deceptively tried to tie Southerland's pledge to fight tax increases with the shipment of American jobs overseas. The boilerplate attack, which comes directly from Nancy Pelosi's national Democrat playbook, has already been discredited by the non-partisan organization FactCheck.org.

Boyd's sudden desire to save American jobs belies his own record of support for billions of dollars in tax breaks for foreign companies competing with American firms. When Boyd rubber-stamped the $787 billion Stimulus boondoggle, he voted for $2.3 billion in manufacturing tax credits to companies primarily employing foreign workers in countries such as China, South Korea and Spain.

"With Americans struggling to get back to work, Allen Boyd decided to give tax breaks to foreign companies creating jobs in China, rather than here at home," Southerland said. "No amount of false negative attacks will absolve Allen Boyd of his responsibility in supporting an extreme agenda that continues to stall our economy. In Congress, I am ready to create jobs and lead where Allen Boyd has failed."

Southerland campaign spokesman Matt McCullough added, "President Obama visited Florida today to raise money and pay Allen Boyd back for his lockstep support for the Obama-Pelosi-Boyd Stimulus that offered tax breaks to create jobs in China. Mr. Boyd's misplaced priorities continue to cost North Floridians their jobs and, in return, his record will cost Mr. Boyd his own job this November."
